Celebrating 35 years of Banyards Success
Our landmark anniversary has given us an opportunity to reflect on what Banyards has come to stand for after 35 years. We repeatedly hear our clients say we give them confidence and peace of mind and, as the Managing Director, this is exactly what I wish to hear. We pride ourselves on being very hands-on, applying our substantial expertise and experience, and not being shy to ask the difficult questions when required.
2023 starts with the construction industry facing supply chain issues, an economic downturn, inflationary pressures, and the complications created by the energy crisis. One of the key areas of focus for 2023 is Net Zero. We know carbon reduction is a priority for us and our clients. Last year we employed a sustainability consultant to calculate our carbon emissions and review our business practices. This has helped establish a course towards achieving Net Zero with our own short and long-term targets.
2023 is also going to be a challenging year for recruitment. As an industry leader, providing specialist commissioning verification and mechanical and electrical design consultancy, I believe we have a duty to attract new people and raise awareness of M&E design, commissioning, and verification as a profession. Banyards will be increasing the amount of work experience it offers, providing training and engaging schools and colleges to raise the profile of our sector amongst future generations. At the same time, we will continue to offer training programmes and career paths to help our staff develop whilst embracing the latest technology to make buildings sustainable.
As I reflect on the projects we have worked on during our 35 years, it is hard to pinpoint the ones I’m most proud of. For commercial offices, highlights include the Manchester Civil Justice Centre, One Bishops Square, The Tate Modern, British Library, One Hyde Park, 70 St Mary Axe, The Leadenhall Building, One Angel Square (Co-Operative head office) and Manchester Town Hall to name but a few.
We have worked for the NHS and the private healthcare sector overseeing high dependency units, pathology laboratories, Covid testing mega laboratories, diagnostic centres, rehabilitation centres, new wards, proton beam therapy facilities and MRI suites. Projects have included Great Ormond Street Hospital, The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, Evelina London Children’s Hospital, Guys and St Thomas and many, many more.
Currently we are involved in some of the most ambitious and potentially challenging building projects in our industry. It is going to be an exciting year for life sciences, commercial, education, hotels, and leisure – all sectors we have been extensively involved in over the decades.
We recently reviewed our company values which proved straightforward given our longevity and success. We scrutinised what we stood for as a company and as a team; and from there our values were clear. Banyards stands for long-lasting relationships with our clients and partners. Our values are about attracting and retaining high-achieving, successful people within our teams and ensuring we continue to have the can-do approach we are well-known for. Lastly, our values are about doing the right thing for our clients and the people who work for us; ensuring everyone is safe as they go about their work.
More than ever, I wish to thank all our staff past and present, clients and stakeholders who have supported and worked with Banyards over the years. We know our 35 years of experience is what counts, and we look forward to working with you for many years to come.
